Home » Who we are » Sustainable air filtration
“Sustainable development” is defined as a development capable of ensuring that the needs of the present are met without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Currently, filtration is not sustainable.
The raw materials used for this process are fossil-derived synthetic polymers; plastics such as polyethylene, polyester and polystyrene; silica or, in the case of glass fiber filters, other minerals.
As a result, the environmental impact of filtration is very high both during production and disposal, which generally involves sending spent filters to incinerators.
The performance of an air filter is evaluated by its filtering capacity and pressure drop.
In order to improve filtration efficiency, it is usually necessary to increase the thickness of the filter medium, with the result that the pressure drop increases and the air flow rate decreases.
To maintain the same air flow rate – for example, in general ventilation systems – it becomes essential to increase the power of the system and thus also its energy consumption.
